Guwahati is all set to receive compressed natural gas (CNG) services for vehicles in the upcoming years. The work on the project is likely to get started within 7 to 8 months, souces reported.

This was informed by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Purba Bharati Gas Limited, a joint venture of Assam Gas Company (AGC), Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL), and Oil India Limited (OIL).

"We intend to start three CNG stations in Guwahati. There will be a lot of background work and we are currently under negotiation wit

h the higher authorities including Indian Oil Corporation," said Abhijit Barua, CEO, Purba Bharati.

Another issue being discussed is the setting up of mother station in Dibrugarh.

"There will be a problem regarding the operating cost from Dibrugarh, which is 400 km from Guwahati," added Barua. The project is expected to begin within 7-8 months from now.
