ASSAM: LANGUAGE UNDER THREAT

The Assamese language is facing a serious threat in the upcoming times. There have been about 48.38% of people speaking Assamese in the state as per the Census 2011. The earlier record was 48.80% in 2001 and 57.81% in 1991. There has been an abrupt increase in the Bangla language speaker with about 28.91 as per the Census 2011 which was earlier 27.58% in 2001 and 21.67% in 1991. The illegal immigration in the state has lead to serious threat over the language and originality of the Assamese people.
