Assam man mauled to death by herd of wild elephants

Digboi, May 5, 2019:

A 50-year-old man was killed in an attack by a group of wild elephants in Digboi Shillong road of Tinsukia district of Assam. The deceased person has been identified as Gokul Chhetri (50), who lived in the Servant Quarters of the Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (AOD).

According to sources, he was surrounded by a herd of wild elephants when he was going to his home on Digboi Shillong Road at around 8.30 pm on Saturday night.

As per reports, the herd attacked Gokul Chhetri and badly injured him.

The injured person was immediately taken to the IOC Medical of Digboi where doctors declared him dead.

After this incident, the forest department and the CRPF reached the scene and pushed the elephant herd back towards the forest. There were five elephants, including a baby elephant, in the herd.
