Boko, February 28, 2020:

Assam’s Boko MLA Nandita Das of the Congress party visited the disputed spot at Umali village in the Lumpi area in Kamrup district on Friday, and demanded the "eviction" of Khasis in the area as they not follow the rules of Assam

On February 19 last, when some Assam state government officials went to the spot, which had previously been selected for a Assam Police border out post, the Meghalaya police and residents confronted the officials, claiming that the area belongs to Meghalaya.

During an interaction, the Congress MLA, Das, said that the Lumpi area’s border issue is an age-long issue. She alleged that after a communal clash between Assam’s Khasi and Gorkha people living in the area in 2010, Meghalaya had started encroaching Assam’s land.

She also alleged that before also Meghalaya people stopped Assam government’s two road construction under PMGSY scheme.

One is Lower Lumpi to Rani village, around 3 kilometers long and the second is Hahim to Leisadubi village, around 900 meters long.

When the MLA and other party workers visited the spot, the Meghalaya police and commandos were present at the location.

Later, MLA Das complained that the Meghalaya personnel should have left the spot, but they are staying rooted.

MLA Das also alleged that according to the survey of India’s map, Lumpi area is in Assam state but Meghalaya government, ignoring the map, had set up 4 polling stations in the area during the Assembly Elections.

Due to that, MLA Das requested both the state’s chief ministers to solve the matter as soon as possible. She also requested the Assam government that Assam’s Khasi people in the Lumpi area has never cast their votes in Assam during election nor they took part in National Register of Citizens of Assam and they support Meghalaya, so government should evict them from Assam to Meghalaya.
