Guwahati, August 5, 2019:

As per latest reports, Congress MP Bhubaneshwar Kalita has resigned from the Rajya Sabha. It is to be mentioned that Kalita had contested the 2019 Lok Sabha elections as the Congress candidate from Mangaldai, but lost to the BJP's Dilip Saikia.

The 68-year-old Kalita had begun his term as a member of the Rajya Sabha from Assam on 10 April, 2014. The cause of his resignation is as of yet unknown.

This will add to the panic in the Congress camp as earlier, Sanjay Singh, another Rajya Sabha MP from Assam, had resigned a few days days, citing a lack of leadership in the grand old party.

Addressing the media, Sanjay Singh had said: “Congress is still in the past. The country today is with PM Modi and if the country is with him I’m with him. I will join BJP tomorrow.”

Moreover, he added that he had been with the Congress since 1984, and his decision of leaving won’t impact Congress in any way.

He had lost his seat to BJP’s Maneka Gandhi in the recent Lok Sabha election from Sultanpur.

His wife Amrita Singh has also tendered resignation from her post as the chairperson all India Professional Congress in UP.
