GUWAHATI: With the Assam by polls underway, Congress state President Bhupen Bora has claimed that Congress is sure to win in the constituency with highest turnouts.

"Wherever the turnout is highest, we will win. We have been getting calls from our party workers from different booths. They are hopeful."

He informed that the polling agents in every centre are keeping an estimate.

"I can't say that at what time I will win. However, by evening everything should be clear. After the polls we will get the information from the polling agents.", he added.

He added that the youths desire a change the government but this voting will not bring changes in this regard.

Bhabanipur, Gossaigaon, Thowra have shown significant turnouts so far, stated Bora.

The fate of three 3 Lok Sabha seats and 29 assembly seats in 13 states and one union territory will be decided on Saturday amid stringent COVID protocols.

Assam is witnessing five Assembly bypolls in constituencies including Gossaigaon in Kokrajhar district, Tamulpur in Baksa district, Mariani and Thowra in Jorhat district and Bhawanipur.

Bypolls in Gossaigaon and Tamulpur were required owing to the deaths of the sitting MLAs. On the other hand the incumbents of Bhabanipur, Mariani and Thowra left their seats to join the saffron clan.

MLAs Rupjyoti Kurmi and Sushanta Borgohain resigned from the Congress.

While Phanidhar Talukdar left AIUDF and is now fighting on BJP ticket.
