Eminent Assam litterateur Homen Borgohain succumbed to COVID-19

GUWAHATI: Eminent litterateur Homen Borgohain succumbed to COVID-19 this morning.

The 88-year-old Borgohain, a writer, journalist breathed his last at 6.58 am today at Guwahati Neurological Research Centre (GNRC).

He was undergoing treatment at GNRC after being tested positive for the COVID-19 virus in the second wave of the pandemic in Assam.

Earlier he was also shifted to the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in Guwahati for his treatment.

Homen Borgohain who was born on 7 December 1932, in Dhakuakhana was working as the editor-in-chief of Assamese daily Niyomiya Barta.

Borgohain was also the president of the apex literary body Assam Sahitya Sabha.

Borgohain was awarded the 1978 Sahitya Akademi Award in the Assamese language for his novel Pita Putra.

He also wrote several novels, short stories, and poetry.
