GUWAHATI: The government of Assam today launching the second phase of the Dr. Banikanta Merit Award of Pragyan Bharati scheme of the state government distributed scooters to over 15,160 girl students who have been selected on a merit basis in a prograame held at the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) Auditorium in Bhangagarh, Guwahati.

 

Out of total 15,160 girl students who received scooters today, 5,028 were from the 2018 batch, while 10,132 girls were from 2019 batch.

Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who was present at today's ceremony, tweeted, “GoA has launched the second phase of Dr. Banikanta Merit Award today, Feb 17, with distribution of scooters to 15,160 bright girl students. 5,028 girl students have been selected on merit basis from HSE batch 2018 & 10,132 have been selected from that of 2019 batch.”

 

Sarma during his address said Dr. Banikanta Kakati Merit Award is an ambitious step to encourage meritorious girl students to keep doing well in their studies.

 

In the first phase of this scheme, the state government has distributed scooters to over 22,245 girl students.
