GUWAHATI: Guwahati resident Dipon Malaker evidently clicked a picture of two policemen riding on a scooter without wearing helmets.

In the picture, clicked atop a flyover in the Guwahati Club area in the Assam city, it can be seen that one of the policemen was riding pillion -- something that is advised against in the COVID-19 times.

Malakar, who describes himself as a 'civil engineer' in his Twitter bio, kickstarted a Twitter storm by posting the picture on the platform. He pointed out that no one is there to "stop them", a sharp contrast to the fact that the police are tasked with imposing the COVID-19 curbs in this second phase.

"These are two @assampolice personnel not wearing helmets and also pillion seated behind, but no one is there to stop them,' Malakar wrote on Twitter, also sharing a picture of the errant duo. He tagged Additional DGP G P Singh in his post.

Singh, always quite active on social media, fired back with the following words: "They should be challenged for not wearing a helmet. Please report compliance to me."

Dipon Malakar however soon earned the wrath of netizens who targetting him for painting the proverbial target on the police duo's backs.

"I think this is hyper reporting. Get some rest bro. These cops are fighting day and night against all odds. And u sitting in some AC room and tweeting," wrote a user criticizing Malakar.

"Call of duty.. we should stop complaining about these types of thing.. Personal and official emergency are two different things," another wrote.

There were some, however, who observed that the same laws must be applicable to all.

"If the police will violate the rules then why not the general public can???," asked a user.

"Great this is the sign of a responsible citizen even policemen are also human beings having big social and enforcement responsibilities and hence their safety must be our concern," wrote another Twitterati.
