The Gauhati High Court has directed the District Administration to shift the venue for holding protest to Sachal near Tennis Club from Dighalipukhuri.
A PIL was filed in the High Court against massive traffic jam creating problems for commuters due to the protests at Dighalipukhuri which the court has given orders in favour of it and directed the District Administration to change the venue. So, the Kamrup Metropolitan District Administration has fixed Sachal as the official venue for holding protests in Guwahati.
Speaking to InsideNe, former Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti leader Kamal Kumar Medhi said, “The shift in the venue to Sachal will be problematic for us as earlier in Dighalipukhuri one side was totally reserved for carrying out protest and other activities. Protests are carried out in public interest to resolve ongoing issues in the state and the public should compromise over it. This action has been taken based on some political influence to fulfil their agenda. ”
While speaking to Simanta Thakuria, Central Committee State Executive of All Assam Students Union said, “The area has to be checked before giving any statement on this regard as we have just heard of it.”
