Himanta Biswa Sarma on May 16 inaugurated what was described as India’s first artificial intelligence and digital-powered “phygital” bank branch in Guwahati, aimed at expanding financial inclusion and creating new opportunities for youth and small entrepreneurs.
The AI-powered branch of Slice Small Finance Bank was unveiled at GS Road in Guwahati.
Speaking at the inauguration, Sarma said the branch represents another step towards building a more inclusive financial ecosystem across both urban and underserved communities in Assam.
He said the launch reflects the kind of technology-driven investment the state government has been encouraging in recent years.
According to the Chief Minister, customers will be able to access credit directly through the UPI interface without separately applying for loans.
“This will help small shop owners and women entrepreneurs get access to working capital for their businesses within minutes through their phones,” he said.
Sarma further asserted that the Assam government remains committed to positioning the state as a destination for responsible and technology-driven investment.
He added that the government is working to create conditions where businesses can thrive and citizens can access financial tools needed to improve their livelihoods.
The bank said the “phygital” branch combines physical and digital banking services through AI-enabled self-service kiosks, paperless cash deposits and withdrawals, and streamlined digital onboarding systems.
