GUWAHATI: In a major breakthrough, Assam Police arrested at least nine drug peddlers in Guwahati today and recovered a huge quantity of contraband drugs from their possession.
A team of Latasil Police Station (PS) along with the Special Operation Group (SOG) of Central district carried out a series of raids against drug trafficking in Guwahati and seized the contraband drugs.
The seized contraband drugs include-- 87 vial heroine and 2.5 packets of suspected heroin.
The total weight of heroin was 54.71 gm, said police.

Police also seized three four-wheelers--Suzuki Dzire Car (AS 01 EQ 6413), Hyundai i20 (AS01 DZ 2295), and Hyundai Creta (AS 03 AE 3395), and one two-wheeler-- Honda Dio (AS01 EB4527) from their possession.
The drug peddler has been identified as-- Rubul Ali, Pinku Biswas, Ankur Madhab Dev, Biswajit Kashyap, Realm Phangcho, Athem Haokit, Nabajit Paul, Nizam Ali, and Zakir Ali.
The Latasil Police has filed a case under section 22(b)/29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Further investigation on this matter is underway.
