MLA Rahul Roy resigns from Congress in support of Citizenship Bill

Guwahati, January 19, 2019:

Hailakandi District Congress Committee President, Rahul Roy, has submitted his resignation on Saturday to support BJP-led government’s move to amend the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016.

The resignation letter was submitted to Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) President Ripun Bora. Rahul Roy is the son of former minister Gautam Roy.

At a time when the entire state is protesting against the Bill and many of the BJP leaders have stood against the Bill, the move of Rahul Roy has shock the people of Assam where the APCC President himself has protested against the implementation of the Bill in the Parliament itself.
