Guwahati, October 7, 2018: Ahead of Durga Puja, the Assam Police were on a high alert following intelligence inputs that some rebels belonging to National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) have sneaked into Assam from Myanmar. “The NDFB has already suffered a setback and recently they had some problems in Myanmar over monetary issues. We learnt that some of their boys entered Assam from Myanmar. So, we are keeping a close vigil,” Assam’s Special Director General of Police Pallab Bhattacharya told InsideNe. “There is no specific threat perception. We don’t have any inputs that they will carry out some subversive activities in the lead up to Durga Puja. But we are not taking any chances,” he said. Bhattacharya also said that the government had already alerted all deputy commissioners and superintendents of police to maintain vigil during the festive occasion. “All DCs and SPs have already held meetings with members of Durga puja committees across the state. They have been told to ensure the installation of CCTV cameras and proper lighting in the pandals. They have been also told how the volunteers should keep an eye on people at the entry and exit points,” Bhattacharya added.
