Section 144 imposed in Kaziranga to prevent fishing on 'Uruka'

Golaghat: Kaziranga National Park authorities and the Subdivisional administration imposed Section 144 at Burhapahar and Bagori range in Kaliabor to prevent community fishing during Uruka, the day before Bihu which is traditionally marked by feasting and merrymaking.

Although the forest department used to give permission to the locals for community fishing in the nearby beels of Kaziranga, some people started doing it got business purpose for which the department and the park authorities have decided to impose 144 in the said areas.

The entry of these people was also seen as a risk for the animals and therefore, the fishing tradition have been banned and Section 144 has been imposed on January 13 and 14. Moreover, forest officials have deployed guards in the above-mentioned areas to deter trespassers.
