Stop doing politics over NRC: Congress

The Congress in Assam on Tuesday urged political parties to refrain from politicizing the issue of National Register of Citizens (NRC).

Talking to reporters in Guwahati, leader of the Opposition Debabrata Saikia alleged that some political parties were doing politics over NRC.

He claimed that when the Congress was in power, it had deported more foreigners than that of current BJP-led government. Also, the Congress had shown more responsibility towards the Assam Accord, he asserted.

Saikia alleged that under the present government, genuine Indian citizens were being harassed on the suspicion that they are illegal immigrants.
