ULFA-I extends ceasefire ahead of Independence Day

GUWAHATI: As the nation bracing up for its grand 75th Independence Day celebration on August 15, the United Liberation Front of Asom - Independent (ULFA-I) has extended its three-month-long unilateral-ceasefire today, for three more months.

ULFA-I has announced a unilateral ceasefire on May 15 last citing the prevailing COVID-19 situation in the state of Assam.

“Though our unilateral ceasefire announced on 15/05/2021 for three months will expire today but citing no sign of stability in the COVID-19 outbreak ULFA-I has decided to extend the unilateral ceasefire for next three months,” read the statement released by ULFA-I commander-in-chief Paresh Baruah.

ULFA-I has also asserted to stay away from their arms and ammunition expeditions during the period.
