A 100-day special tuberculosis (TB) eradication campaign was officially launched in Morigaon on the occasion of World Tuberculosis Day.
The programme was inaugurated by Additional Deputy Commissioner (Health) Nitisha Bora in a formal event held in the district.
Addressing the gathering, the ADC said the main objective of the campaign is to identify every TB patient in the district and ensure they receive proper treatment under government healthcare services. Special focus will be given to people living in remote and hard-to-reach areas, including labour communities.
Officials from the district health department informed that during the 100-day period, health workers will conduct door-to-door health check-ups, organise screening camps, and hold awareness programmes across the district.
Residents showing symptoms of tuberculosis have been urged to come forward without hesitation and undergo testing at government health centres.
The initiative is part of the Government of India’s mission to achieve a TB Mukt Bharat.
It may be noted that World Tuberculosis Day is observed every year on March 24 to mark the discovery of the TB-causing bacterium by Robert Koch in 1882.
Senior health officials and dignitaries from various blocks were present at the launch event, with the health department appealing for public cooperation to make the district TB-free.
