1,500 MT high-value cargo reaches Guwahati's Pandu via Indo-Bangladesh route

In a significant boost to riverine logistics, a high-value cargo consignment of nearly 1,500 metric tonnes has reached Pandu from Kolkata via the Indo-Bangladesh Protocol Route, underscoring the growing efficiency of inland waterways in the region.

The shipment, comprising granulated blast furnace slag and TMT bars, was transported for Larsen & Toubro by Tata Steel. The consignment included 23,980 bags weighing around 1,199 MT, along with an additional 300 MT of TMT bars.

The cargo was moved using Tug MV Trishul, accompanied by barges D.B. Dikhu and D.B. Ajay, navigating through the Indo-Bangladesh Protocol Route to reach Pandu.

Officials said the successful operation highlights the increasing adoption of inland waterways for bulk cargo movement, offering a cost-effective and environmentally sustainable alternative to road and rail transport.

The Inland Waterways Authority of India played a key role in facilitating the seamless transit, reinforcing its push to enhance multimodal connectivity and strengthen logistics infrastructure in the Northeast.

The development is expected to further accelerate the use of National Waterways for industrial cargo movement, improving supply chain efficiency and regional trade connectivity.
