The All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) on Friday, August 14, staged a protest in Assam’s Tingkhong against prolonged and irregular power cuts, demanding uninterrupted electricity supply in the area.
The Tingkhong, Rajgarh and Lengeri regional units of AASU jointly gheraoed the Tingkhong Electrical Sub-Divisional Office and raised slogans against the power department.
The protesters alleged that electricity supply was being disrupted for hours without prior notice, even when weather conditions were clear, causing hardship to residents.
They said the erratic power supply had particularly affected students and small business owners in the area, besides inconveniencing the general public amid the prevailing intense heat.
The student leaders expressed anger over what they described as repeated verbal assurances from officials without any lasting solution to the problem.
The protesters demanded that the authorities immediately address the power crisis in Tingkhong and ensure regular electricity supply.
They also submitted a memorandum to the concerned authorities outlining their demands.
The protest comes amid growing concerns over power supply disruptions in several parts of Assam during the ongoing period of intense heat.
