The president of the All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU), Dipen Boro raised concerns over the poor performance of students in the Gunotsav-2025 exams, particularly in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) as well as in the Karbi Anglong and Dimahasao districts.
Speaking at a press conference held at Bodofa House in Kokrajhar, Boro said, "The failure of the Assam Government to provide quality education in the Sixth Schedule areas of the state has come into focus following the recent Gunotsav 2025 results, declared by the Assam Government's Education Department".
The Gunotsav results for the four BTR districts — Kokrajhar, Chirang, Baksa, and Udalguri (Sl. 28, 29, 30, 31, and 32) along with Karbi Anglong (West Karbi Anglong, Sl. 26 and 27) and Dimahasao and Hojai districts, have been highly disappointing.
Boro pointed out that these results highlight a significant failure in the education system of these regions, which fall under the Sixth Schedule of the Indian Constitution.
He blamed both the Assam government and the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) government for not taking timely and effective steps to improve the education system in these areas, leading to the poor performance of students.
Further emphasising the ongoing decline in educational services, Boro criticised the lack of sufficient teachers and essential infrastructure in schools across the region. He also pointed out that many schools are still awaiting textbooks, a situation exacerbated by the government's delay in distributing them.
“The Assam government has failed to take necessary actions to improve the education system in these areas, resulting in such poor outcomes. Immediate attention and intervention are required to address these concerns,” Boro stated.
ABSU has demanded immediate steps from both the state and regional governments to ensure that educational services in the Sixth Schedule areas are improved and that students receive the necessary resources to succeed.
