The All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) has submitted a memorandum to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma seeking immediate intervention to address the shortage of Bodo medium textbooks in schools across the state.
A five-member ABSU delegation led by president Khwrwmdao Owary submitted the memorandum through the Kokrajhar District Commissioner on Thursday.
According to ABSU, despite Bodo medium receiving official recognition on May 18, 1963, students are continuing to face difficulties due to the non-availability of textbooks even over a month after the start of the current academic session.
The student body alleged that schools in 12 districts of Assam offering Bodo medium education are facing an acute shortage of textbooks, affecting students’ academic activities.
ABSU stated that it had earlier raised the issue on May 11 through a separate memorandum submitted to the Mission Director of the Assam State Textbook Production and Publication Corporation, seeking urgent action and requesting authorities to ensure textbook distribution by May 18.
The organisation has now appealed to the Chief Minister for immediate measures to ensure the timely supply of textbooks to Bodo medium schools across the state.
