The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) staged a strong protest in Dhubri on Thursday, demanding a nationwide ban on the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) following rape allegations against an NSUI leader in Odisha.
The protest, held near Bholanath College, was led by ABVP's Dhubri and Bongaigaon district unit co-coordinator Vivek Prasad. The demonstrators, holding placards and raising slogans, called for stringent action and accountability from the Congress-affiliated student wing.
Condemning the incident, Prasad said, “Such acts not only harm the victim but also bring disgrace to student politics. The NSUI must be banned immediately to prevent such behaviour from being normalised within student organisations.”
Prominent ABVP members including Bhaskar Sarkar and Shivam Brahma joined the demonstration alongside several local functionaries. The protest reflects the ABVP's wider demand for accountability and justice amid growing outrage over the Odisha case, which has sparked nationwide condemnation.
