Adivasi students' body AATASU launches paddy sowing drive for flood-hit farmers in Assam's Sivasagar

The All Adivasi Students' Association of Assam (AATASU) on Sunday, August 2, organised a community paddy seed-sowing programme in Assam's Sivasagar district to help farmers affected by the recent floods resume cultivation.
 

The initiative was carried out at Paraliguri-Pahukhowa and aims to prepare paddy seedlings for transplantation across nearly 500 bighas of agricultural land.
 

The programme was organised to support farmers whose crops and farmland were severely affected by the recent floods and to encourage them to restart agricultural activities ahead of the next cultivation cycle.
 

AATASU president Milan Burhagohain said the organisation had undertaken the initiative to assist flood-hit farmers and contribute to restoring agricultural production in the region.
 

He said the community-driven effort seeks to provide immediate support to affected cultivators while helping revive farming activities in one of the worst-hit districts.
 

The programme was attended by AATASU's central and local leaders, local farmers and residents, who participated in the seed-sowing drive.
 

The initiative comes as several organisations and government agencies continue relief and rehabilitation efforts across Assam, where floods have caused extensive damage to farmland, homes and livelihoods over the past few weeks.
