Assam is gearing up to welcome more than 10,000 tourists during the upcoming Advantage Assam 2.0 summit, Tourism Minister Ranjeet Kumar Dass announced today.
The northeastern state has witnessed a remarkable tourism revival, recording 7.6 million domestic tourists and 26,000 international visitors last year, compared to just 8,000-10,000 foreign tourists annually before 2021.
"We're introducing helicopter services to showcase Assam's diverse attractions to summit visitors," Dass told reporters in Guwahati. The state has mobilised its hospitality sector, with hotels across all categories, including five-star properties, prepared to accommodate the influx of guests.
The tourism surge represents a dramatic turnaround for Assam, which previously struggled to attract visitors due to political unrest and frequent protests. The state tourism department has developed comprehensive post-event sightseeing packages for summit delegates, highlighting its commitment to promoting local attractions.
Dass emphasised the state's transformation from a protest-prone region to a sought-after tourist destination, underlining the government's strategy to leverage the summit for tourism growth.
