Floodwaters from the Aie River inundated several villages in Assam's Bongaigaon district on Sunday, June 28, after the river's water level rose sharply, disrupting road connectivity and affecting public infrastructure.
Around five to six villages under the Manikpur and Srijangram revenue circles were affected by the flooding. Revenue villages including No. 4 Bhandara, No. 5 Bhandara, No. 6 Bhandara, Balapet and Tentonpur were among those submerged.
The Basbari Sub-Health Centre and a cremation ground were also inundated as floodwaters spread across low-lying areas. Water flowing over roads disrupted vehicular movement, leaving several villages with limited connectivity.
Residents said the flooding has led to a shortage of fodder for livestock, adding to the difficulties faced by affected families. With the Aie River continuing to swell, the flood situation remained a cause for concern.
Flood-affected residents have urged the district administration to initiate relief measures and provide assistance at the earliest as water levels continue to rise.
