AJP president Lurinjyoti Gogoi leads seedling relief mission for flood-hit farmers in Upper Assam

Assam Jatiya Parishad president Lurinjyoti Gogoi has launched a special seedling relief mission to support farmers affected by the devastating floods in Upper Assam and help restore their damaged farmlands.

 

At Aoguri Dhaman in Tingkhong, Gogoi joined party workers and around 50 women in the fields to collect rice seedlings for distribution among flood-affected farmers.

 

The Assam Jatiya Parishad has set a target of supplying one lakh bundles of rice seedlings to flood-hit farmers, of which around 20,000 bundles have already been distributed.

 

Along with supplying seedlings, women workers of the party have also been visiting flood-affected villages and planting the seedlings themselves in the damaged fields. Around 50 to 60 women have so far voluntarily participated in the planting work across several flood-hit villages.

 

Improved varieties of rice seedlings, including Ranjit, Aijong, Project Lahi and IT Lahi, are being supplied as part of the initiative.

 

The women participating in the programme are carrying out the planting work without taking any remuneration, describing the effort as a voluntary service to help affected farming communities recover.

 

The initiative comes as a social responsibility effort by the Assam Jatiya Parishad and local women to help restore agricultural livelihoods in flood-affected areas, despite the party not being in political power.
