Akhil Gogoi demands removal of Bimal Borah as Assam's Sivasagar guardian minister, alleges irregularities in flood relief distribution

Raijor Dal MLA Akhil Gogoi on August 7 demanded the removal of Assam Minister Bimal Borah as the guardian minister of Sivasagar, alleging large-scale irregularities and political bias in the distribution of flood relief to affected families.

 

Addressing a press conference, Gogoi claimed that several genuine flood victims had been denied government assistance, while many ineligible beneficiaries had received relief.

 

He alleged that during the initial phase of the floods, BJP leaders were absent from relief operations and that Raijor Dal workers were actively engaged in assisting affected residents. According to Gogoi, BJP leaders became involved only after the relief efforts began receiving public appreciation.

 

Gogoi accused Bimal Borah of distributing relief materials through BJP supporters and party ward members instead of ensuring impartial distribution.

 

He further alleged that a BJP ward member had misappropriated relief materials and claimed that when local residents exposed the incident, no action was taken against the accused. Instead, Gogoi alleged that the person who raised the issue was jailed.

 

The Raijor Dal leader also alleged that flood relief in Sivasagar and Charaideo was distributed on political considerations, leaving many deserving beneficiaries without the Rs 15,000 relief assistance announced by the government.

 

Claiming that similar complaints had emerged from several parts of the state, Gogoi urged the Chief Minister to entrust the preparation of beneficiary lists to village headmen, ward members or impartial government officials rather than political workers.

 

Holding Bimal Borah responsible for the alleged irregularities in Sivasagar and Charaideo, Gogoi demanded that the Chief Minister immediately remove him from the post of guardian minister and ensure a fair distribution of flood relief.
