The All Bodo Students Union (ABSU), a student organisation representing the Bodo community, has restored 42 flood-damaged homes in Assam’s Sivasagar district as part of its three-day humanitarian initiative, “Mission Home Rescue and Restore”.
The initiative was launched following the devastating floods of July 19 that left several homes damaged, filled with mud and silt, and vulnerable to collapse.
ABSU deployed 100 student volunteers, divided into 10 teams, across Majgaon and Projabosti villages, among the worst-affected areas of the district.
The volunteers carried out structural stabilisation of damaged houses, removed mud, silt and flood debris from homes and premises, and salvaged essential household belongings to make the houses habitable for affected families.
“The catastrophic flood of July 19 has severely disrupted the lives of thousands in Sivasagar district. Through ‘Mission Home Rescue and Restore’, the All Bodo Students Union stands in firm solidarity with the affected communities,” ABSU said in a statement.
The organisation said its volunteers would continue the restoration work until normalcy is restored in the affected villages.
ABSU also thanked local residents, village elders and ground coordinators for their cooperation during the relief and restoration drive.
