Alleged frog killing in name of traditional healing sparks concern in Assam's Rupohihat

Allegations of frog killing in the name of traditional healing have surfaced in Saidariya area of Rupohihat, with local residents raising questions over the activities of a person identified as Salman Kabiraj.

According to the allegations, Salman has been allegedly using frogs as part of purported traditional healing practices and has been accused of carrying out activities that local residents describe as deceptive. The allegations have reportedly raised concern among sections of the public in the area.

The matter has also drawn attention to the alleged use and killing of frogs during such practices. Local residents and concerned citizens have urged the police and Forest Department to look into the allegations and ascertain whether any wildlife protection laws have been violated.

Questions have also been raised over whether the alleged practices involve a protected frog species and whether the collection, use or killing of such animals requires action under applicable wildlife regulations. These aspects would need to be established through an official investigation.

The allegations have emerged at a time when authorities in the area have also taken action in another case involving alleged fraud in the name of traditional healing. Juría Police had arrested a person identified as Zahur Ali, alias “Pagla Baba,” from Chotian in Juría, following allegations of collecting money through intermediaries by promising traditional treatment.

While that case has already led to police action, local residents are now questioning whether similar allegations against Salman Kabiraj will also be investigated by the authorities.
