Lurinjyoti Gogoi, president of the Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP), on March 14 said defeating the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) remains the primary objective of the opposition alliance, urging leaders and aspirants to set aside emotions and ego for the larger political goal.
Speaking to the media on preparations for the upcoming elections, Gogoi said that discussions on seat-sharing among alliance partners have already been finalised in New Delhi and the party will soon announce the names of its candidates.
He said the opposition alliance is focused on unseating the BJP and strengthening coordination among its partners ahead of the polls.
Commenting on the alliance with the Indian National Congress in the Khowang constituency, Gogoi said coalition politics requires compromise and mutual understanding.
“Alliance means adjustment,” he said, adding that it is natural for individuals to have aspirations and expectations regarding party tickets, and such expectations may sometimes lead to disagreements or dissatisfaction.
However, Gogoi stressed that all leaders and workers must rise above personal grievances, emotions and ego in the interest of the broader objective of defeating the BJP.
He also expressed confidence that alliance partners will uphold the spirit of cooperation and move forward together with coordination and understanding.
