Assam's Bodo Women Writers’ Association launched 15 Bodo books at an event held at the auditorium of the Institute of Bodology in Kokrajhar, on December 29.
The event, a literary milestone, featured the release of nine poetry collections, two short story compilations, and four books on essays and literary criticism.
The ceremony was graced by Surath Narzary, President of the Bodo Sahitya Sabha, and Adaram Basumatary, Principal of Kokrajhar Girls’ College, who jointly unveiled the books.
Among the authors celebrated at the event were Anju Basumatary, Virgin Jacoba Mushahary, and Dr. Indira Boro, all renowned writers and recipients of the Sahitya Akademi Award. Their work, alongside others, underscore the rich literary tradition and growing prominence of Bodo literature.
Speaking at the occasion, Anju Basumatary, President of the Bodo Women Writers’ Association, highlighted the significance of collective book launches.
“Launching books individually can be a challenge due to time constraints. To address this, we have been organising collective launch events every year, creating a platform to encourage and celebrate writers,” she said.
Surath Narzary, President of the Bodo Sahitya Sabha, emphasised the importance of women’s contributions to literature, stating, “In a male-dominated society, it is women who can truly articulate the emotions and experiences of other women. Their leadership in literature is a sign of positive change.”
