Assam: 15-year-old arrested over murder of 16-year-old boy in Dima Hasao

Police in Assam’s Dima Hasao district have arrested a 15-year-old boy in connection with the alleged murder of a 16-year-old, Anraj Longmailai, whose body was recovered from a forest near Gidingpur village on October 23.

Anraj, son of Bikel Longmailai, was a resident of Hajadisa village under Maibang Police Station. His body was found in the forest and later identified by police.

According to sources, Anraj had visited Maibang during the Durga Puja celebrations on October 17. His family reportedly lost contact with him late on October 18, prompting concerns over his whereabouts.

During the investigation, police arrested the minor, who was reportedly a close friend of the deceased. Preliminary information suggests that the accused allegedly stabbed Anraj in the stomach with a screwdriver before strangling him.

The arrested minor is currently in police custody as investigators work to establish the motive behind the alleged murder and determine the circumstances leading to the teenager’s death.

Police have not disclosed further details as the investigation continues.
