Assam police intercepted a truck during a nighttime operation against suspected cattle smuggling and recovered 30 cattle from a concealed compartment inside the vehicle, with one animal reportedly found dead.
The operation was launched after a truck allegedly ignored police instructions to stop at the Kaliabor Police Outpost in Kuwaritol and sped away towards Shivsthan. Police pursued the vehicle along National Highways 715 and 127 before intercepting it at Shivsthan.
The truck, bearing registration number AS 02 CC 7019, was seized, and its driver, identified as Nur Mahmud, was arrested in connection with the case.
During a subsequent search, police recovered 30 cattle from a concealed compartment inside the vehicle. One of the animals was reportedly found dead. The rescued cattle were later transported to a cowshed in Nagaon.
Mahmud, a resident of Borma Bil under the jurisdiction of Samaguri Police Outpost, was taken to the Koliyabor Police Outpost along with the seized vehicle.
According to the information available, the cattle were allegedly being transported from Upper Assam to Bangladesh. Allegations have also been levelled against Ijazul Haque and Mustafa Ahmed, both residents of the Samaguri Police Outpost area, over their suspected involvement in the alleged smuggling operation.
