Fifty women from economically disadvantaged families in Juria have fallen victim to a fraudulent scheme, resulting in the loss of Rs 65,000.
The accused, identified as Habiba Khatun, an ASHA worker from Nagaon district, is alleged to have orchestrated the scam by exploiting the trust of these poor women.
The victims were promised monthly rations and a financial assistance of Rs 15,000 for mothers of girl children under the pretense of a relief scheme by the Ajmal Foundation.
The ASHA worker used her position to convince these women of the legitimacy of the relief, only to deceitfully extort money from them.
The scam came to light recently, causing widespread outrage and distress among the affected families. Upon realizing the deception, the victims promptly lodged a complaint at the Juria police station. The authorities have registered the case and initiated an investigation into the matter.
