Samujjal Kumar Bhattacharya, the advisor to the All Assam Students' Union (AASU), conducted an inspection of the repair works at the Dam Siga portion of Hatimura and the dam at Kalangmukh in Kaliabor on Sunday (July 7).
Bhattacharya, who arrived at Hatimura around 5 PM, emphasized the unique flood situation in Kaliabor and the need for tailored compensation and relief efforts.
Highlighting the severity of the flood situation that has impacted the Hatimura dam, Bhattacharya urged the central government to take full responsibility for addressing the problems of flood and erosion in Assam.
He also demanded stringent punishment for those responsible for the substandard repair work at Hatimura, stressing the importance of accountability and quality in infrastructure projects.
The AASU advisor's visit comes amid ongoing concerns about the effectiveness of flood management and erosion control measures in the region.
Bhattacharya's call for distinct relief measures for Kaliabor reflects the area's specific challenges and the broader need for improved flood mitigation strategies in Assam.
