Assam: ABSU to stage massive protest in Delhi demanding full implementation of BTR Accord, 125th Amendment Bill

The All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) has announced a series of protest programmes in the national capital, calling for the complete implementation of the Bodo Territorial Region (BTR) Accord and the adoption of the 125th Constitutional Amendment Bill aimed at strengthening the powers of the Autonomous Councils across Northeast India.

Addressing a press conference in New Delhi, ABSU President Dipen Boro reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to ensuring that every clause of the BTR Accord is fulfilled “word for word.” He highlighted that the 125th Amendment Bill holds crucial importance for enhancing administrative and financial autonomy in the region’s Autonomous Councils.

As part of its agitation plan, ABSU will host a discussion meeting on November 20, which will bring together leaders representing 10 Autonomous Councils from different Northeastern states. This will be followed by a mass dharna on November 21 in front of the Ministry of Home Affairs in New Delhi.

Boro further stated that leaders from various Autonomous Councils in Assam and other Northeastern states have expressed their solidarity with the movement and are expected to actively participate in the upcoming protests.

The ABSU has appealed to the Central government to honour the BTR Accord in both letter and spirit while urging for swift action on the pending constitutional amendment. The union maintains that full implementation of these measures would significantly contribute to equitable development, local empowerment, and lasting peace in the Bodo and other autonomous regions.
