A tribute was paid to Chaolung Sukapha, the founder of the Ahom Empire, at his statue located at Hill View, in Assam's Margherita, on the occasion of Assam Divas.
Flowers were offered and lamps were lit in Sukapha's honour, who is known as the unifier of Greater Assam.
Sukapha, who crossed the Patkai hills in 1228 AD to establish the Ahom dynasty in Assam, is revered as a symbol of unity and integration.
Renowned Tai language and culture researcher, Pranab Gogoi, attended the event, which included a discussion focused on the unity and integration of various ethnic groups.
The event, organised by the Chaolung Sukapha Memorial Committee, was attended by dignitaries and local residents from the Margherita Co-District area.
The committee also announced that a lamp-lighting ceremony would be held at Sukapha's statue in the evening to further commemorate the occasion.
