Tension prevailed at the Chaygaon Industrial Growth Centre in Assam on Thursday night after a local youth was allegedly assaulted by an employee of Maruti Quality Products Private Limited following an incident involving urination near the company's boundary wall.
The youth, identified as Utpal Das, a resident of Chhatabari in Boko, was allegedly assaulted by Dhruva Gupta, a non-Assamese employee of the company. The incident reportedly occurred on October 15 after Das allegedly urinated near the factory's boundary wall.
The alleged assault triggered protests outside the company's main gate, with local residents and workers gathering late at night to demand action over the incident.
During the protest, some workers reportedly alleged that several employees had been confined inside the company premises for an extended period following the confrontation, further escalating tensions in the industrial area.
Personnel from Jambari Police Outpost rushed to the spot after receiving information about the incident. Police intervened to bring the situation under control and rescued the workers who were allegedly confined within the premises.
The incident left the industrial centre tense, with further details regarding the circumstances of the alleged assault and subsequent police action awaited.
