At least 20 people, including children and women, fell ill after consuming khichdi served as prasad during a puja at Kharikhana Bilpar in Hojai district on Tuesday night.
According to reports, the victims complained of severe stomach pain, vomiting, and diarrhoea shortly after partaking in the meal. Several affected villagers were rushed to the district civil hospital at Lanka’s Jorapukhuri, where they are undergoing treatment.
Hospital authorities confirmed that six to seven patients required admission and are receiving necessary medical care. The condition of most patients is reported to be stable.
Local residents expressed concern over the incident, while government doctors attending to the patients suggested food contamination could be the cause. An inquiry into the matter is expected to follow.
