Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) President Bhupen Borah addressed the media on October 20, urging all parties, including the media, to refrain from spreading rumors about the selection of candidates for the upcoming by-elections in five constituencies of Assam.
Borah specifically addressed speculations that Congress may field its own candidate, Jayanta Bora, in Behali instead of leaving the seat to ally CPI (ML). Jayanta Bora recently resigned from the BJP.
"I request that no one, whether in Congress or elsewhere, comment on probabilities. All of our leaders have spoken about their capabilities, and I’ve forwarded a report from the 5-member Asom Sonmilito Morcha committee to the AICC. The final decision will be taken by the AICC, and we will respect it," Borah said.
He further said that the main goal of the Congress party remains clear—defeating the BJP. "We may have differences, but our objective is the same. I urge everyone, including media persons, to wait for the AICC's decision before making any comments," he added.
Borah also shared his personal experience, stating, "I didn’t get a ticket four times, but I had patience, and now I’m responsible for distributing five tickets."
The final decision from the AICC is expected soon.
