The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) organised a ‘Jan Jagaran Samavesh’ in Assam’s Cachar district, drawing over 25,000 supporters for a rally in Silchar that focused on national unity and criticised what the party described as divisive politics.
The programme was attended by Assam Minister Kaushik Rai, Rajya Sabha MPs Kanad Purkayastha and Sushmita Dev, Lok Sabha MP Parimal Suklabaidya, MLAs Rajdeep Goala and Rajdeep Roy, Amiyo Kanti Das, and other BJP leaders and party functionaries. A large rally was also taken out through the streets of Silchar.
Addressing the gathering, Minister Kaushik Rai criticised Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and accused the Congress of pursuing divisive and anti-national politics. He asserted that people across the country continued to support Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
BJP MLA Rajdeep Goala also targeted the Congress, alleging that Rahul Gandhi’s reported treatment of a senior party colleague reflected his attitude towards others.
Rajya Sabha MP Sushmita Dev challenged the Congress’s claims of widespread public support, citing the turnout at the Cachar rally as evidence of support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
Dev also referred to the BJP’s recent rally in Nagaon, pointing to the participation of supporters at the event as an indication of the party’s public support.
The Cachar gathering was part of the BJP’s political outreach in Assam, with party leaders using the platform to criticise the Congress and reinforce their support for the leadership of Modi and Sarma.
