Assam: Bokakhat to unveil second statue of Zubeen Garg on his 53rd birthday

As many as 132 organisations in Bokakhat have come together to celebrate the 53rd birthday of Assam’s beloved music icon, late Zubeen Garg. The celebrations on November 18 will feature the unveiling of a second statue of the iconic singer in the town.
Senior Cabinet minister and Bokakhat MLA Atul Bora announced that the event is being organised with the full support of the Bokakhat Sub-Divisional Administration, with the objective of fostering harmony and collective pride among residents. The day-long programme will highlight Zubeen Garg’s cultural impact and longstanding influence on Assam’s musical landscape.
Ahead of the celebrations, 53 artistes have been rehearsing a special group musical presentation based on the singer’s most popular compositions. The performance will be staged at the Bokakhat Natya Mandir, adding a musical tribute to the occasion.
Among the unique features of the programme, a Kopou flower will be planted on a 120-year-old Seuj tree in front of the Bokakhat Tourist Lodge, symbolising love, heritage, and cultural continuity. Additionally, all participating organisations will collaborate to construct a full-sized statue of Zubeen Garg, reinforcing the community’s admiration for the music icon.
Minister Bora confirmed these details, adding that Bokakhat’s collective initiative represents a heartfelt acknowledgment of Zubeen Garg’s contributions to the arts and society.
