Assam: Bongaigaon administration carries out massive eviction drive at Jogighopa, sparks tension among traders

Authorities in Bongaigaon district initiated an eviction drive at Jogighopa’s Tinali Bazaar on Tuesday, targeting encroachments on land belonging to the Inland Water Transport Department.

The operation was led under the supervision of the Bongaigaon Deputy Commissioner and the Superintendent of Police. A large contingent of security personnel was deployed to ensure smooth execution of the drive. Bulldozers were pressed into service to clear the occupied areas, beginning from one end of the site.

The sudden eviction triggered chaos and panic among local traders, many of whom expressed distress over the administrative action. Officials, however, maintained that the drive was necessary to reclaim government land and prevent further encroachment.
