The Bongaigaon district administration has launched an eviction drive to reclaim land illegally occupied for over two decades from the premises of the Shri Shri Raghunath Bigrah Mandir Satra, situated in No. 6 Bhandara, Srijangram on June 16.
The temple-satra authorities had earlier alleged that portions of the institution’s 349 bighas of land had been encroached upon by individuals and families for the last 25 years, despite repeated administrative notices for voluntary evacuation.
On Monday, in a significant move, the administration evicted 27 families from the disputed land and successfully restored the area to the temple trust. The operation was executed under tight security and in the presence of senior officials from the district and police administration.
Officials confirmed that the eviction drive followed several unheeded directives and public notifications issued to the encroachers in the past. The reclaimed land is expected to be brought back under the formal management of the Satra committee.
