In a major breakthrough, Bongaigaon Police have arrested three individuals, including a fake journalist, for their alleged involvement in a series of thefts carried out while impersonating police personnel. The arrests were made from the Dispur area of Guwahati following a swift operation based on specific intelligence inputs.
The prime accused, identified as Imam ul Haq, had been introducing himself as a journalist to gain public trust. Along with his accomplices, Sanjay Das and Pragyan Narjari, he allegedly orchestrated multiple thefts by disguising himself in police uniforms during night hours.
According to officials, the trio had executed a theft on November 5 in an apartment located in New Bongaigaon. They reportedly entered the building wearing police attire, misleading residents and gaining easy access to the premises.
During the operation, police recovered a significant cache of stolen items, including three live cartridges, seven gold chains, nine mobile phones, six rings, two silver coins, and Rs 98,000 in cash. Police uniforms used in the crimes were also seized from the accused.
All three individuals are currently being interrogated as the investigation continues to determine the extent of their network and involvement in other similar incidents. Authorities have stated that further arrests may follow based on their disclosures.
