In a significant show of political strength ahead of the upcoming Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) elections, the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) on Saturday organised a massive Ashirbad Rally at the DN Himatsingkha playground in Santinagar, Kokrajhar City.
The event drew thousands of supporters from multiple constituencies under the Kokrajhar subdivision, who came to extend blessings and express solidarity with BPF’s declared candidates. The rally marked the formal introduction of key candidates: Hagrama Mohilary (Deborgaon), Derhasad Basumatary (Salakati), Prakash Basumatary (Dotma), Dhaneswar Goyari (Baokhungri), and Kamud Chandra Narzary (Bonorgaon).
BPF President Hagrama Mohilary described the rally as a resounding success, stating, “The Ashirbad Rally under the six constituencies has been successful. We are organising similar rallies across the BTR to consolidate our party’s base ahead of the polls.”
On the much-debated prospect of political unification with the United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL), Mohilary said discussions were ongoing following appeals from various organisations, including the All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU). “We will move forward in the interest of the people,” he added.
Taking a swipe at former BPF leaders Chandan Brahma and Kampa Borgoyari, who have joined the UPPL, Mohilary termed their defection a “political drama” and accused them of betraying the trust of the Bodo community.
With BTC elections expected in September, the rally is viewed as a strategic move by the BPF to energise grassroots workers, reaffirm voter loyalty, and reclaim political ground in the Bodoland Territorial Region.
