A buffalo fight, locally known as Moh-Juj, was organised on Pahela Magh at Ahatguri, Morigaon after years of enforced ban. The event was attended by the Chief Minister, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, and other dignitaries.
Unfortunately, due to the ban, a major fight couldn't be held at the Ahatguri heritage site like in other parts of the state.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, along with MP Pabitra Margherita, MLAs Ramakant Deori, Jitu Goswami, and Rupak Sharma, and the Chief Minister's wife, Rinki Bhuiyan Shama, graced the event as chief guests. The buffalo fight took place on January 16.
Buffalo fights, a part of Assam's local culture, are significant during the Magh Bihu celebrations in mid-January. These events involve organised combat between two male buffaloes, a tradition that has been upheld for many years.
