The Sonitpur district administration has launched a large-scale eviction drive at the Burhachapori Wildlife Sanctuary, using bulldozers to remove illegal settlements from protected forest land.
The operation targets hundreds of families who had encroached upon nearly 830 hectares of land within the sanctuary, officials said.
Authorities stated that the eviction is part of an ongoing effort to reclaim forest land and restore the ecological integrity of the wildlife reserve.
Heavy machinery has been deployed to dismantle structures built unlawfully inside the protected area. The administration has maintained that the action is being carried out in accordance with legal provisions governing forest and wildlife conservation, and security arrangements have been put in place to ensure the drive proceeds without disruption.
