Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday, September 12 addressed the Special Investigation Team (SIT) report concerning allegations of MP Gaurav Gogoi’s links to Pakistan, describing it as a “very explosive” 96-page document.
Speaking to the media, CM Sarma said the SIT had recovered numerous documents pertaining to India’s sovereignty. “It is a kind of cartel that was working to defame the development processes of our country. Within this entire cartel, one Pakistani citizen and the British wife of the MP have played a significant role,” he stated.
The Chief Minister further noted that the cabinet would deliberate on the report and decide on further action after the conclusion of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) elections.
The SIT report has triggered political debates in Assam, with the ruling party emphasizing national security concerns and the opposition calling for transparency and accountability.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said he would first review the report submitted by the SIT, which is probing the alleged Pakistani links of state Congress president Gaurav Gogoi and his family, and only then would it be made public.
The SIT submitted the report in the evening.
"I will receive the report after returning to Guwahati. I will go through the report. After that, the government will inform the people about the report and the future course of action. This is a serious inquiry and is related to the nation's security. After going through the report in detail, a decision will be taken on the action to be taken," he said.
Meanwhile, Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi on Wednesday accused Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma of fabricating allegations and attempting to mislead the public.
